Top 10s of the year

Lists of the year's best films are already starting to come in from critics and film-related organisations so I'm sharing some of them below. Please note a few of the movies mentioned won't even have been released in the UK yet (e.g. The Assassin, Son Of Saul, The Hateful Eight). George Miller's Mad Max: Fury Road (above) crops up on all six of the lists, so far making it the favourite overall, with Todd Haynes' Carol (on four lists) second. I suspect some publications and websites won't be revealing their own choices until the very last minute so they can take into account Star Wars: The Force Awakens, which doesn't hit cinemas for a couple of weeks. I will be counting down my own top 30 again this year and it will be appearing towards the end of this month. Interestingly, none of my own top three films of 2015 appear on any of these lists!

  1. Good gosh that Empire list is predictable. Still, I suppose there's something to be said for consistency.

  2. It's a list that sums up Empire perfectly I think - very safe and unimaginative. I could rant about this at length so it's perhaps best I shut up now.

    1. The only surprise is that they didn't squeeze a Speilberg in there.
